Japanese retailer opens a big distribution center

American company Prologis is to build a 440-thousand square feet distribution center for a Japanese retailer Tohoku CO-OP. Mike Yamada, chief officer of the Japanese division believes that lack of affordable deliveries in the region should increase the demand on class A warehousing facilities.

The new project should satisfy customers' growing demands and offer them a possibility of developing effective supply chains. DHL, one of the leading delivery companies in the world, is one of their clients.

Prologis experts believe that international manufacture growth seriously challenges chain supply workers, as they constantly have to increase stock turnaround, delivery speed, and reduce their expenses.

Plus, consumers seem to like mass-produced goods less and less, and the demand becomes more customized. So, retailers create their own brands and trade marks. This is a big challenge, because delivery expenses for small groups of consumers are usually higher than the profit from the sold goods.
